Days of Life (2023)
Days of Life is a video compiled from footage recorded by Holly Elizaveta during multiple hotel stays. The project emerged from an interest in recording one’s daily routines as an increasingly ordinary activity and mode of self-documentation. Elizaveta utilises familiar conventions of lifestyle content; making coffee, eating, working, putting on or removing make-up. These repetitive gestures accumulate to resemble a script, reflecting on the formulas through which contemporary identities are performed online. The hotel rooms suggests performed domesticity; a temporary space designed to feel private and familiar while remaining fundamentally impersonal. The resulting video reflects on aspiration, authenticity and the unstable boundary between documenting a life and performing one. Days of Life was first presented as a digital event during the 2023 Melbourne International Fringe Festival.
