Using her own body as both subject and site, Holly Elizaveta examines how identity is performed, circulated and monetised. I don't need ur respect I need ur money is a series of posters showcasing Elizaveta’s enlarged semi-nude self-portraits alongside QR codes linking directly to her OnlyFans profile. Her artistic self-portraiture is placed into a sexualised context through her engagement with a well-known adult platform and then advertised in physical space using the aesthetics of flyposting. The work examines the self-promotional demands of contemporary creative and professional labour, highlighting how the body and self-image are used as sites of value production. The work also addresses the notion that women who commodify their bodies may or should forfeit self-respect and the respect of others. This stigma is positioned alongside a broader capitalist condition in which all labour involves the selling of the self, including artmaking. The work examines distinctions between authenticity and “selling out,” asking why certain forms of commodification remain uniquely moralised.
